But I'm not afraid of being alone anymore...

So twice this week I've had people question my social habits... The first being my aunt who I called this week - I think she's worried that I don't have loads of friends / a partner. The second being a friend on Facebook who asked when I was going to get myself a man...

I think I'm a bit of an introvert. I like meeting people but I can't really do the small talk thing - I never know what to say. Get me started on a subject I like & I will talk - its just the starting of a conversation that I battle with. Also at times I just want to be alone - to do my own thing & have me time.  I'm never bored - I always find something to do - whether its going to the gym, reading, watching tv, going to the cinema, getting out & about or entering competitions. I hardly ever feel like I have to HAVE someone around although at times I'd like to have someone around.

The thing is - I'm happy with my life. I remember a few years ago when I was terrified of being on my own - it doesn't scare me anymore. I'd rather be alone than have people around that I don't really get along with or who are very negative - I'm quite sensitive to emotions and when I have negativity or hate thrown at me it brings me down - I literally want to run away. I guess I've grown more choosy of who I let into my life. I think I summed it up best in the reply to my Facebook friend's comment of 'Find a man':

I like my own company & I'm happy so its going to take someone pretty special to share my life.

I'm so excited...

for the Queen's Jubilee. I've made plans to travel down to London to wish HM well. 60 years what a feat! I can't understand why people don't like the Royal Family. Yes OK they cost a lot but they do bring in a LOT of tourism.

So I've got my Union flag to wave and I'll be proud to call myself British and will be there to cheer for her. I'm also planning to try and get into Green Park while the concert is on - apparently there will be huge screens showing it all.

How to annoy Tesco Workers

I decided to got to Tesco's on lunch & see what I could find to go on my sandwiches... Being the money saver I am I'm always on the look out for bargains. I spotted some full chickens reduced to half price so decided to have one. I carried on round the store and spotted the Tesco's assistant marking down the same type of chicken even further (about 60p extra). So to make conversation I said 'I'm just going to exchange this chicken for one of these you've reduced further'. She then said with much sarcasm 'Its only reduced a LITTLE more'... to which I replied ' Well as you guys say 'Every Little Bit Counts'.... the look on her face was priceless :)

Wings of Desire

Went to go watch a dance recital tonight called Wings of Desire which is on at Victoria Square, Birmingham from tonight until this Saturday. I love theatrical shows and this was amazing. If anyone is thinking of going but is put off because they think its only going to be arty I would say go. It is amazing - I would liken it more to a human circus rather than a dance recital. I'm planning to go watch it again on Saturday evening weather permitting. Further information can be obtained here

On another note I had an email on Monday saying that I had won tickets to the Olympic Torch Concert in Birmingham only to receive a further email the next day apologising for the error & had confirmation tonight that I wasn't successful... oh well it is disappointing but at least no bands are planning that I would be really disappointed at seeing! And I did win another prize anyway...

Life is a rollercoaster...

So last week I went to Alton Towers. I hadn't been for ages & although part of me was looking forward to it part of me was dreading it. I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to Rollercoasters - I've been known to end up in tears before going on a rollercoaster while my mate Jonathan drags me on to the ride!

First up was Sonic Spinball which had to be the scariest ride I went on all day however it was loads of fun despite me screaming like a little girl! Next was Rita Queen of Speed - my 3rd favourite ride of the day. 0-100kmph in 2.5 seconds. My mates didn't like this ride but I loved it.

Second favourite ride of the day was Thirteen - went on it twice it was that good - I love this video & I'm so glad I wasn't screaming as badly as she was!

My ultimate favourite ride was Air - I was really looking forward to the ride after seeing the advert, but was also quite nervous about going on it. However I loved it and we even went on it a second time. It's an amazing ride & the feeling of being on it is beautiful - its one ride that I could definitely go on over and over again.

Honourable mention has to go to the Runaway Mine Train which we went on 3 times - yes it may be old & not at all scary but it is definitely a giggle! Choo Choo :)

Other rides I went on - The Blade (really didn't enjoy it!), Hex, The Teacups - made full use of the spinning round control thing, Duel - cheesy but well worth a ride!, Nemesis Sub-Terra - disappointing, The Rapids - got wet but so what it was fun! Really wishing I was still at Alton Towers - I had so much fun & loved it :)

Wakehurst Place, Beachy Head & Eastbourne...

What do you do when the rain's pouring down and there's not much to do? Head for Wakehurst Place... Ok maybe it wasn't the best idea but it didn't turn out too badly... For those of you who don't know Wakehurst Place in West Sussex is part of Kew's Millenium Seed Bank - storing seeds from all over the world so that should a plant become extinct it can hopefully be reintroduced. Its sad to think that plants & animals are becoming extinct through the one species that can actually conserve them & its made me more aware of trying to make my life more green. They also have beautiful gardens, woodlands and a nature reserve which I unfortunately didn't get to explore due it raining. I did however get to explore the 16th Century Mansion which was beautiful. No photos as I forgot to take my camera *Doh*!

The real highlight of my stay however was a trip to Beachy Head... I love Beachy Head - I choose not to think about the more depressing side to it & instead focus on how breathtakingly beautiful it is. Its perfect for a walk which is what I did - not going to say anything more as I think the pictures do it more justice than words can!

What does it take to get home?

I've never been superstitious but that could change...

I've been on holiday for a week in Kent visiting my lovely aunt and having a really nice time but unfortunately today - Friday the 13th - it was time to come home. I had planned my journey back to London leaving myself with what I thought was ample time to get my coach back to Birmingham - unfortunately being the money saver I am I bought a 'Funfare' on National Express - which was cheap but has the proviso that if you miss your coach that's it - you have to buy a new ticket which is understandable but annoying if you being delayed is not your fault.

So we arrive at the station my train is due to leave from to discover that my train is delayed by a quarter of an hour - as I'm due to catch a connecting train to London Victoria I start to worry a little. My aunt kindly offers to drive me to a nearby station where I can catch a direct train to Victoria & I gladly accept. We arrive at said station, ask one of the staff when the next train to Victoria is due to find out it's due in a minutes time - hooray I think I'm going to make my coach! Goodbyes are said and my aunt leaves me trusting in National Rail to get me to London on time! The train arrives & I climb on get my seat only to hear 'We are sorry to announce that this train will be delayed due to their being a fire on the train just ahead' - what??? A fire??? On a Train??? With sinking heart I realise that the chances of arriving in London on time are slipping away...

Suddenly I hear people making plans to share a taxi to Croydon - I pipe up and luckily I get the last seat in the taxi! My hopes of making my coach are once again raised! While on the way to Croydon we get stuck behind what has to be the slowest driver ever & unfortunately as there is a cop car 2 cars behind the taxi driver cannot take a chance and overtake said slow car! We finally get to Croydon & I leg it to the platform to catch my train to Victoria only to find that it to has been delayed!! With sinking heart I realise that I'm definitely not going to make my coach & I didn't - I missed it by 8 minutes!

I get to the coach station & head to the ticket office tell them my story only to be told I'd have to buy another ticket. Now I'm not one to take that answer lying down. So I politely ask to speak to someone else and am pointed in the direction of customer service. Again I tell my story and luckily the lovely man agrees to put me on another coach at no extra cost & with the warning that it is for this time only - don't worry I think - I've learnt my lesson!!

Fortunately the journey from then on in was fine - and I even got to see Milton Keynes coach station woohoo!! - and only ended up being delayed in all by an hour. Got off the coach & walked to get my bus home only to encounter a very upset man crying and screaming on the phone 'Just listen to me' - whew I thought at least my Friday the 13th was nowhere near as bad as yours!
